This is a full time course which usually takes 3 to 4 years to complete depending on whether the student chooses to enrol on the slightly longer Honours Degree course or not. The content of the course will vary depending on your chosen field, but it typically takes the form of lectures and guided study, rounded off by a piece of original research known as a dissertation. On average employees who have achieved a Bachelors Degree will earn up to twice as much as those without one.
Upon successful completion of the Bachelors degree the student is then able to undertake a Masters degree - often abbreviated to MSc or MBA. This course typically takes one year of full time study, or two years of part time study to complete, and, unlike the Bachelors degree course, consists largely of a piece of individual research carried out by the student. To aid with the completion of this individual research project the university provides students with a supervisor for guidance, and if needed, some undergraduate students to help with the more menial research tasks.
If, following on from the Masters degree, the student wishes to continue with their education then they may enrol onto a Doctorate degree course. The Doctorate certificate, better known as a Ph.D., is the highest level of certification a student can currently achieve, and requires 7 years of hard studying to complete. The course is now a combination of student led research, guided study, and since the student has now progressed so far through the education system, the giving of their own lectures to demonstrate their skills and share their knowledge to the next wave of undergraduate students. |
